Home Security Cost
This probably isn’t the answer you want, but it is true – it all depends. Many factors go into the cost of home security, so to arrive at a definite answer several questions have to be answered first. This is not a “one-size-fits-all” proposition. Each situation has different demands and therefore costs do vary, and sometimes dramatically.
We will assume that we have in mind some kind of an electronic home security system with sensors, control panel, and alarms. Be reminded that many home security measures can be taken that are not part of an electronic security system. These have to do with turning on lights, locking windows and doors, and keeping your property well maintained so as to not provide extra hiding places for a burglar, etc.
Now, how much of your home do you wish to monitor? One room? Two? All rooms? Just doors and windows? The least expensive (and bare minimum) security system would consist of a wireless door alarm. The more doors (and windows) you add the more the cost will increase (obviously). Most security systems will also include motion detectors. One or two of these devices are considered basic equipment. Again, the more detectors added the greater the cost. Systems can also include outdoor monitoring of sheds or garages, driveways, swimming pools, and so on.
Wireless systems are less expensive than hard-wired systems. That begins with installation. Wired security systems typically require professional installation (preferably at the time of new construction). Advanced do-it-yourselfers could tackle the job.
More advanced features are also available…for a price. Highly sensitive motion detectors and video surveillance can drive costs even higher.
Will your system be remotely monitored? With these systems alerts are sent to the monitoring company if the system is triggered (you’ve probably seen the commercials on TV). This service is provided at a monthly fee.
Actually, the question that has to be answered is not, “How much does it cost?”, but “What is the peace of mind of home security worth to me?”
