Best Home Security System
Many factors must be considered in selecting the right home security system. What makes it “right” for one person doesn’t make it “right” for the next.
Among the many factors involved is the question of whether to go with a hardwired or a wireless system. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. All factors should be considered and a decision made based on one’s particular needs. Some of the primary factors involved are as follows:
Installation
In a preexisting structure, a wireless system is obviously the easiest to install. A minimum of tools (wire stripper, screwdriver, etc.) and the ability to follow instructions are about all that is needed.
If a new structure is under consideration a professional, permanent install is possible after the homes framing is complete.
Peace of Mind
This isn’t a “nuts and bolts” kind of a reason and it’s importance ranges widely from individual to individual. Simply put, a hardwired system, for some people, inspires the feeling of greater reliability and security, and so greater peace of mind.
Quite honestly, early wireless systems were not that reliable or secure (signal interference, battery life, etc.). Especially compared to more recent systems. Technological advancements have greatly improved these systems to become quite good. The “reliability gap” has been greatly reduced, and in the opinion of some, completely eliminated.
Although technology far outpaces perceptions, if someone thinks the hardwired is better they will have greater peace of mind with that system, whether its actually true or not.
Cost and Features
This is going to depend solely on the particular application of the system. One cannot simply compare one system to another. The particular needs of the specific situation can greatly affect the cost.
Things like the kind of alert notification desired and the physical distance the system covers and other matters can and do affect the kinds of features required (“standard” features vary from system to system) and therefore the ultimate cost of the system.
If at some point in the future you decide you would like to enhance your system (add peripherals, monitor additional parts of your home or property, etc.), a wireless system is easier to expand. Additionally, a wireless system may allow your to monitor areas where a hard wired system simply cannot go.
Take your time to make the “right” decision for you and your family.
